Austintown man sentenced to prison for harassment and child pornography
Matthew Gingrich was sentenced to four years prison in Mahoning County Court.
The thirty-four-year-old Austintown man pleaded guilty to several charges against him including pandering obscenity involving a minor and non consensual dissemination of private sexual images.
Prosecutors say Gingrich harassed his ex-girlfriends with “tribute porn” where he would repost their Facebook photos on explicit sites with inappropriate captions and downloaded child pornography.
Gingrich asked the judge for no prison time saying he's a changed man after going through counseling and programs for sex and pornography addictions.
“I simply no longer want to be a sick person and don’t want to see others sick either,” he said “I view this as nothing less than my last chance.”
Gingrich was visibly upset in court during both his speech and the victims' speeches. Two of the 22 victims were in the courtroom and asked the judge for the harshest sentence of five years.
“I'm scared of this man you see … internally I'm scared of him externally I’m not, you get what I'm saying?” Liz Moretti, Gingrich’s Former fiancé said to the judge.
Even with him now behind bars, one victim says she’s still afraid to post on social media because of what he did.
“Sharing memories with my family we can't do that anymore … just because if he can do it, it can be done by other people as well,” Shawna Perkins, Gingrich’s ex-partner said.
Moretti says seeing him go to prison gives her relief after all the harassment she and Gingrich’s son went through in their 12 year relationship.
“Moving forward for me looks absolutely wonderful because I get to have my kid and [Gingrich] doesn't … he now has to take responsibility for his actions,” Moretti said.
Gingrich must register as a sex offender and was ordered to have no contact with any of the victims in the case.
