East Liverpool man sentenced to 14 years in prison for rape of child
An East Liverpool man was handed his sentence for the rape of a child nearly 10 years ago.
Forty-one-year-old Brian McCune was sentenced to 14 years in prison with credit for 468 days served followed by five years of post release control on one count of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition.
He must also register as a tier 3 sex offender.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred between October of 2014 and December of 2015 when the victim was between the ages of eight and nine years old.
During the sentencing, the victim's grandmother took to the stand to read a letter from the victim who is now almost 18 years old. The letter detailed the lasting impacts McCune's actions have had on the victim.
"My childhood was taken away from me and I was forced to mature before I was meant to. ... I have severe trust issues with men because I've looked up to [McCune] as a father. He did not protect me the way he was supposed to. I have issues with sleeping because I still have nightmares of him," the letter read.
McCune also took to the stand, but did not apologize for his actions. Instead, he asked for the minimum sentence so he could take care of his parents.
"I'm the only son my parents have left. ... I don't know how much longer my parents are going to be around. What I'm asking for is the minimum [sentence]. I'll do that time and come back home and help take care of them and help take care of the dogs and whatever needs done," McCune said.
