Primanti Bros. offers sandwich challenge to competitive eater Joey Chestnut after Hot Dog Contest ouster
One day after competitive eating legend Joey Chestnut was banned from the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, Primanti Bros. Restaurant is offering him a new opportunity to showcase his skills.
According to a release from the company, Primanti Bros. is offering Chestnut a chance to beat the unofficial Almost Famous Sandwich record on July 4, the same day as the annual hot dog eating competition.
"If Joey wants to celebrate our nation's independence with a James Beard Award-winning American Classic – well, we'd be honored," said Primanti Bros. CEO Adam Golomb. "At this point, I think the most I've ever seen anyone eat in one sitting was five. And I feel like Joey's got that beat."
The Almost Famous sandwich consists of thick-cut slices of Italian bread, grilled meat, provolone cheese, french fries, coleslaw and tomato.
If Chestnut accepts the challenge and breaks the unofficial record, he will become the most prolific Primanti Bros. sandwich eater of all time and get a place on its mural which is located at Primanti Bros. original location in Pittsburgh's Strip District.
Chestnut, 40, is the number one ranked competitive eater in the world by Major League Eating. He is a 16-time Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion having won each contest between 2007-2014 and 2016-2023.
Chestnut also holds the world record for most hot dogs and buns eaten during the contest with 76 in 2021.
