Republican Michael Rulli won the race to fill the remaining term of Ohio's 6th congressional district.

Voters in Ohio's 6th District - which includes parts of Mahoning, Columbiana, Belmont, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Noble, Stark, Tuscarawas, and Washington counties - decided between Democrat Michael Kripchak and Republican Mike Rulli.

Rulli will fill the rest of Bill Johnson's term. Johnson left Congress to become president of YSU.

Rulli is an Ohio State Senator and owns Rulli Brothers grocery stores.

The Ohio Republican Party congratulated Rulli on his win.

"Congratulations to Ohio's next congressman, Michael Rulli! The people of Ohio's 6th Congressional District are patriotic, hard-working, and want to see Washington DC start putting America First again. I am confident he will do a tremendous job for his constituents, and I look forward to working with him to support our Republican candidates up and down the ballot in November," Chairman Alex Triantafilou, Ohio Republican Party.

Below is a look at election results from the Ohio Secretary of State:

Michael Kripchak (D) - 27,062  (45.34%)

Mike Rulli (R) - 32,627 (54.66%)

*100% of Election Day precincts reporting.

The Ohio Democratic Party praised Kripchak for his campaign.

“We’re grateful to Michael Kripchak for running a campaign rooted in the belief that the people of Ohio’s 6th district deserve a representative who works for them, not just the wealthy and well connected. Michael ran a strong campaign that focused on the issues that matter most, showing up in communities across OH 6 that have been long overlooked. All while facing heaps of corporate cash and running in an illegally gerrymandered district. As he enters the general election, we know he’ll keep up the fight so voters in OH 6 get the representation they deserve.
