Youngstown Police: 131 shots fired as 18-year-old woman killed, another injured on South Side
Youngstown Police say 131 shots were fired late Sunday on the city's South Side where an 18-year-old woman was killed. Another female, whose age and name are unknown and is still alive, was also shot and injured.
The shooting took place around 11 p.m. near Glenwood Avenue and Sherwood Avenue.
The gunshot wound victim found inside an SUV, was taken to the hospital where she died. Her name has not yet been released.
The SUV, which has multiple bullet holes, shattered windows, and two flat fires, was moved to a nearby parking lot.
A large crowd gathered at the scene while police were investigating the scene.
Nearly 100 shell casings were found in a parking lot. According to police, YPD's Shotspotter recorded 131 rounds fired at the time of the murder.
"This homicide was proceeded by multiple "car meets" in the city throughout the day where vehicles and the people driving them
disregarded traffic laws, the safety of themselves and others, and common sense," according to a news release from YPD Lt. Mohammad Awad. "There were dozens of vehicles and people participating in these car meets including the last one where the homicide occurred.:
Awad says no one has come forward with information on the murder even though there were several witnesses.
