Playground equipment at the recently revitalized Austintown Township Park was vandalized over night into Friday.

According to a post originally uploaded to the Austintown Township Park Facebook page, a newly-installed sensory board at the park was detached from its poles. Based on witness accounts of the Park, the incident is believed to have occurred over night while the Park was vacant.

The sensory board was a part of a recent remodeling and expansion of the Park, with new amenities officially being opened on June 1.

It is unclear at this time as to who may have vandalized the equipment.

According to Austintown Township Trustee Robert Santos, they are currently unsure of a time frame for repairing the sensory board or how much the potential repairs will cost. Santos is currently in contact with the manufacturer in the hopes that the vandalism may be covered under warranty.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to notify the Austintown Police Department at 330-799-9721.
