Youngstown Police: Remains found on South Side were those of shooting, robbery suspect

Remains found earlier this week in a lot on Youngstown’s Southside have been identified as those of a man wanted for a shooting.
A media release from the Youngstown Police Department revealed that a body found Tuesday in a brushy area between Pasadena and Dewey Avenues was that of Benjamin White.
On Oct 22, 2023, officers investigated a reported shooting on the 200 block of Gaither. The victim told police that White robbed him and tried to kill him by shooting him in the face.
Officers who spotted White and chased him through the backyards say they heard a single gunshot but couldn’t find White.
On Tuesday, officers from the Youngstown Police Department and Mahoning County Sheriff's Office set up a search party to check the surrounding areas from where Benjamin White was last seen.
Officers located remains, which were later positively identified by the Mahoning County Coroner.
Additionally, White was also wanted in Columbiana County for allegedly defrauding Norfolk Southern out of over $16,000 worth of funds intended for the victims of the East Palestine train derailment.
