A Salem woman who pled guilty in March to her involvement in a deadly hit skip crash has learned her fate on Tuesday.

Thirty-year-old Patricia Phillips was sentenced to one year and prison and a three-year driver's license suspension on one felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

The charge stems from a hit skip crash that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Brandy Lasky of Salem, who was walking along Route 344 in Perry Township back in March of 2022. Phillips said she did not stop at the scene because she thought she hit a deer.

The maximum sentence Phillips could’ve faced was three years. Lasky’s family members said they were disappointed the judge didn’t impose a full penalty.

“We lost a sister, a best friend, a grandma, a mom and we anticipated a more stringent outcome than what we saw here today,” Eric Lasky, the brother of Brandy Lasky said.

He feels Phillips' recent OVI charge in May of 2024 shows she hasn't held herself accountable for the accident.

“What has so many of our family challenged today is that her actions have not changed in any way,” Eric said.

But Phillips apologized to the family in court saying this has affected her.

“I can't imagine what [Brady's} family has gone through because I've spent two years and three months not being able to function as a person,” Phillips said just before hearing the prison sentence.

Phillips's sister Brandy was also involved in this case and had previous pled guilty to obstruction of justice when she gave false information about the crash. She was sentenced to three years of probation.
