The East Palestine City School District has announced the appointment of a new superintendent.

According to a press release, the district hired James Rook to fill the role of superintendent following the departure of former superintendent Chris Neifer, who was recently selected as the new superintendent for Boardman Local Schools.

According to the release, Rook has a distinguished background in education serving as Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center.

He also served the East Palestine Local School District in the past, previously acting as middle and high school principal between 2015 and 2021.

East Palestine School Board President Jen Andre is quoted as saying Rook's passion, expertise and in-depth knowledge of East Palestine is what set him apart from his competitors.

"It is with great optimism that we welcome Mr. Rook back to our Bulldog community. We have full confidence in his leadership abilities, vision for the future, and dedication to continuing our pursuit of excellence among our students and staff," Andre said.

Rook is a graduate of the University of Akron and Youngstown State University and holds a master's degree in educational administration and state licensure in superintendency.

"I am deeply humbled and honored to return to a leadership role within these schools. While much has changed in the past three years, the caring people who comprise this community remain steadfast, and it is the people who make East Palestine such a special place for me," Rook said.
