As the warm weather rolls in, festival season heats up, keeping ride inspectors busy ensuring the quality and safety of all attractions.

The Back to Strip Cruise In and Spring Carnival is underway this weekend in Niles, Thursday May 30 through Sunday, June 2. The event features carnival games, fair foods and several rides for folks to enjoy. There will also be a car cruise and show on all festival days, except Sunday.

Organizers of the event say ensuring the safety of the rides for guests is a key part of setting up, as inspectors are trained thoroughly to know what to look for.

"They take a very thorough inspection of every single ride," said Tim Bortner, Co-Owner of Bortner Shows Midway. "They look at every single bolt pin, tires, blocking, mechanical structure. Everything down to the lighting, making sure everything is good."

Bortner added the inspectors also look at the generators powering the rides to make sure they are functioning properly.

The Spring Carnival is located at 5125 Youngstown Warren Road in Niles and is free to the public.
