November trial set for ex-husband of murdered Leetonia teacher
A Lisbon man is scheduled to go on trial on November 12 for the murder of his ex-wife, a former Leetonia teacher.
Fifty-year-old William Long Jr. appeared before a Columbiana County judge Monday for a pre-trial hearing on charges of aggravated murder, murder, discharging a firearm upon a roadway, and firearm specifications.
The charges stem from the shooting death of former Leetonia teacher and coach, 50-year-old Michelle Long, who was found dead outside her Carey Road home in Butler Township last November.
In the months following the incident, detectives and investigators with the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office and Major Crimes Task Force reviewed digital and forensic evidence that led to William being charged and indicted.
Deputies say Michelle's body was found in her truck with the door open and engine running. William had been involved in divorce proceedings with Michelle.
Michelle served as a math, STEM, and industry teacher and coach at Leetonia High School since 2015.
Long remains jailed on a $1.5 million bond.
