Spotlight Performing Arts Studio for children opens in Warren
The Spotlight Performing Arts Studio is officially open in Warren on East Market Street. The studio is set to be a hub for young performers in the community to develop their talents.
With life size props and performance sets decorating the studio, the goal is to help children in the Mahoning Valley develop a variety of skills.
"It's a big step for the community. We don't have a lot of focus on performing arts in this area, so I think it's a big thing for kids to be able to express themselves in whichever way they feel necessary. Whether it's drama, dance or vocal music," Nyamekye Mitchell, performing arts director said.
The owner, ShaRonda McQueen said the studio has been her dream for years. The Youngstown native has offered acting programs since 2013, and now she can continue that program and more in her own studio.
The studio offers five week classes focusing on tap dancing, script writing and improvisation and more.
The mayor of Warren says this will be an invaluable experience for the youth.
"We know statistically that there's a connection between success in life and being involved in programs that allow you to be creative in the arts. So, [the studio is] going to be extremely important for our young people and the community as a whole." Mayor Doug Franklin said.
The studio is also available for youth events and parties.
