City of Girard Council drafts legislation opposing Dominion Energy rate hike
Back in April, 21 News reported on a resolution from Warren City Council expressing opposition to a proposed 30% rate increase for Dominion Energy customers. Now, another city has drafted their own.
According to the agenda for the City of Girard's May 28 Council meeting, council members will have its first reading of an ordinance opposing the 30% rate hike requesting the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to deny Dominion's request for the hike.
This comes one month after Warren City Council unanimously approved legislation modeled after similar legislation enacted in the City of Akron opposing the rate hike.
In our initial report, Warren Third Ward Councilman Greg Greathouse told 21 News he was encouraging other Valley communities to draft their own legislations opposing the hike.
Now, the City of Girard has taken Greathouse's advice. The legislation will be discussed at Tuesday night's council meeting at 7:00 p.m.
