A standoff with Police in Farrell ended early Friday with one person with what District Attorney Peter Acker describes as life-threatening injuries.

A swat team and dozens of police officers from Farrell, Sharon, Hermitage, and Jefferson converged outside the Luxx Convenience store on Indiana Avenue just before midnight Thursday after officers told dispatchers that shots had been fired and one man was down.

21 News crews could hear a crisis negotiator over a loudspeaker as officers waited with guns drawn.

 

 

There was some movement at around 1:30, as EMS treated someone and then took them away in an ambulance. Police stormed the building shortly after.

Traffic was shut down at Indiana Avenue and Idaho Street during the standoff.

21 News got two anonymous tips who said that a gunman had taken hostages within Luxx.

Authorities have not confirmed that.

A victim was taken by ambulance to a waiting medical helicopter and flown to a trauma center.

DA Acker, who was at the scene at 8 a.m., says his office and State Police are investigating the incident.

Acker tells 21 News he believes a citizen to have been involved in the shooting as well when he saw the officer lying on his back in the parking lot and the suspect approaching the officer with a gun pointed at him.

Acker tells us the citizen intervened and shot the suspect. At this point, it is unknown if any shots were fired by officers.

As police were wrapping up at Indiana Avenue, Farrell Police were called to investigate a report of shots fired on Hamilton Avenue.
