Suspect sentenced to 16 years in prison for Columbiana Co. cold case murder
A Hammondsville man pleaded guilty to charges connected to the death of a Salineville man.
The Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office says 49-year-old Charles Bogart, Jr, pled guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and burglary.
Bogart was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The charges were connected to the 2010 death of William "Sonny" Young who was found shot to death at his farm on Hazel Run Road. Young's remains were found in a wooded area near Highlandtown Lake after an extensive search by local and federal law enforcement.
At the time, Bogart was convicted of identity theft, fraud and receiving stolen property, landing him in prison for a short time in 2011.
Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino said detectives with the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and members of the Prosecutor's Office staff played critical parts in the investigation.
"Without the Cold Case Task Force and investigators from multiple agencies coming together and analyzing this case from the ground up, we would not be where we are today," Abruzzino said. "I also cannot thank the Columbiana County Commissioners enough for providing me the resources needed to reinvigorate these 'cold cases' to the point that we are seeing indictments and convictions."
