Feds indict Youngstown man accused of attempting to smuggle guns at Pittsburgh Airport
A Youngstown man accused of attempting to smuggle three guns in his luggage at the Pittsburgh International Airport has been indicted.
According to a press release, 26-year-old Luis Rojas Cay was indicted on possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft.
Authorities say Rojas Cay was planning on flying to Puerto Rico, but his luggage contained three firearms including two semi-automatic 9mm handguns with one of them being loaded, along with an unloaded 40 SW caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Additionally, authorities say Rojas Cay had approximately 204 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Authorities say all of these items were concealed in containers wrapped in foil and placed in a metal briefcase.
According to the release, Rojas Cay is a convicted felon and is not allowed to carry a firearm. He is currently on probation after pleading guilty in Lorain County, Ohio in August to carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.
"As a convicted felon, Rojas Cay should not have firearms anywhere, let alone in his bag at 35,000 feet,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan.
If he's convicted, Rojas Cay could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
