UPDATE: More details revealed in Friday night shooting in Austintown
Austintown police are investigating after a shooting late Friday.
APD says it happened shortly before 6pm along Nantucket Drive off Burkey Road. Police tell us an 18 year old man suffered a single gunshot wound. He is recovering in the hospital and is in stable condition as of this entry.
According to a police report, police arrived at Austintown Fitch High School and found numerous people standing near a blue Chevy Impala with the male victim who police say had blood running down his stomach area telling police he was shot.
Police observed a single gunshot wound on the victim's upper-right chest area, as well as two more bullet holes in the victim's jacket.
Officers spoke to multiple witnesses who were in the vehicle with the victim who told police they were parked in the 4500 Block of Nantucket Drive waiting for a friend when a grey or silver Jeep Cherokee slowly drove past them twice.
One witness told police roughly four to five people were in the vehicle and were all wearing face coverings.
Another witness only saw three people in the vehicle and saw one of them wearing something "bright yellow" and the person in the back passenger side seat as a "darker skinned" male wearing a red durag with dreadlocks.
Police say one of the occupants of the Jeep yelled something at the group followed by the victim approaching the vehicle. Shortly after this, the witnesses heard one shot fired and started running.
According to police, the witnesses believe the shooter to have been in the back passenger side seat of the Jeep.
Police believe that this could be connected to an "ongoing feud" between Chaney High School students and Fitch High School students. Police say an after-prom party hosted by Fitch students could have sparked an issue with Chaney students.
Police say the victim's older brother was the host of an after-prom party.
