Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana county road projects: See where repaving and repairs will be happening

With each spring, flowers bloom, and orange barrels begin to pop up all over the Valley. The good weather allows the road crews in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties to fix our roadways.

Here is a breakdown by county of planned county projects:

MAHONING COUNTY

• The Western Reserve Road widening project continues, with possible delays. The project adds a turn lane east of Hitchcock Road to the I-680 southbound exit ramp. The $17,618,168 project will continue through May 2026.
• Dobbins Road Bridge Replacement (East) - $231,173
• Dobbins Road Bridge Replacement (West) - $206,360
• Early Road Bridge Replacement - $659,000
• Lansdowne Blvd Bridge Replacement - $639,000

The tentative paving list will cost approximately $7,637,832, according to the Mahoning Co. engineer's website includes:

• Southern Blvd (W of tracks) US 224 Corp. Line

ODOT PROJECTS

• Pavement and curb replacement on SR 170, $7.9 million: Pavement and curb replacement on SR 170 between SR 630 to just south of E. Middletown Rd. in the Village of New Middletown & Springfield Township.  Project includes upgrading drainage system and implementing access management. State Route 170 will be reduced to one lane for northbound vehicular traffic only just south of E. Middletown Road. Southbound SR 170 traffic from Struthers Road south to E. Middletown Road will be restricted to local access only, no through traffic. The detour for southbound SR 170 traffic will be SR 170 to U.S. 224 to SR 7 to SR 626 to SR 165 to SR 617. The detour for northbound truck traffic will be SR 617 to SR 165 to SR 626 to SR 7 to U.S. 224 to SR 170. Spring through early fall.
  

TRUMBULL COUNTY

The 2024 Road Improvement Projects include 4.17 miles totaling $1,146,402.90 for work at:

• Howland Wilson Rd. (Howland Twp.) – between Warren Sharon Rd. and King Graves Rd.
• Squires Lane (Howland Twp.)
• Jones Rd. (Liberty Twp.) – between City of Giard and SR 193
• Addison Rd. (Brookfield Twp.) – between SR 82 and US 62

There are 3.17 miles of road improvements planned this year, totaling $1,356,655.50:

• Everett Hull Rd. (Bazetta Twp.) – between North Park Ave. and Hoagland Blackstub
• Everett Hull Rd. (Fowler Twp.) – between City of Cortland and Ridge Rd.
• Warren Meadville Rd. (Bazetta Twp.) – between SR 5 and SR 305
• Durst Colebrook Rd. (Bazetta Twp.) – between Warren Meadville Rd. and SR 305
• Brookfield Ave (Brookfield Twp.)
• King Graves Rd. (Fowler and Vienna Twps.) – between SR 193 and Five Points Hartford Rd.

2.23 miles of road rehab planned, costing $350,850.79:

• Stroup Hickox Rd. (Farmington Twp.) – between Geauga Portage Easterly Rd. and Housel Craft Rd.
• Hoffman Norton Rd. (Farmington Twp.) - between Geauga Portage Easterly Rd. and the Farmington No. 12 Bridge north of Housel Craft Rd.

• Trumbull Ave. (Liberty Twp.) – between the City of Girard and SR 193

Larchmont Ave. – 1.49 miles ; $938,106.85

• Larchmont Ave./Bronze Rd./Overland Ave. Intersection Improvements (Howland Twp.): Intersection upgrades to accommodate industrial truck traffic within the Golden Triangle
• Barclay Messerly Rd. Cold Mix Resurfacing (Southington Twp.) – 1.54 miles: Resurfacing between Warren Burton Rd. and SR 305
• Wakefield Creek Rd. Cold Mix Resurfacing (Gustavus Twp.) – 0.95 mile: Resurfacing between SR 193 and Stoddard Hayes Rd.

Columbiana County is looking at paving around 10 miles of the total road while chipping and sealing nearly 102 miles this year.
