The Youngstown Solidarity Network and the Calvin Center for the Arts hosted a May Day festival on Sunday afternoon.

The event brought people in the community together in a free celebration of labor, climate justice, human rights, social justice, and the honoring of Beltane.

Beltane is a pagan festival, which celebrates the coming of Summer. Beltane is the Gaelic word used for May Day festivals in Scotland and Ireland.

Community groups and vendors hosted tables offering locally produced art, home goods, and food.

"It's important because as we go along in our day to day lives, everything around us has become so commodified that you can't hangout anywhere without expecting to have to pay for it," said Glenn Hall, the event's organizer. "We want to take that back we want to have a free space where people can celebrate the coming of spring and the power of their work in a totally free, family-friendly spot."

An address was also given by Alice Lynd about the documentary made about her and her husband Staughton Lynd.
