It's a bitter-sweet occasion for Jameson's Candy employees and customers, as the business closed its doors for the final time Friday.

The Wilmington Road confectionery was a staple in the community, which regularly fulfilled orders from fans across the nation.

Owner Dennis Jameson tells 21 News it's hard to let go of a business that's been in his family for decades, but he feels his family is ready to retire.

"I'll miss our customers, I'll miss my employees, but we are ready," Jameson said. "It's time."

In February, the business posted that it would be closing, but had not set a date at that time.
Orders poured in following the announcement, keeping Dennis and his employees busy during their final two months of production.

"February and March, they were probably the busiest two months I have ever had in all my years in the candy business. Because, no matter how much I was making, it was disappearing faster than I was making it," Jameson added.

The Jameson family plans to host an auction at Jameson's Candy sometime in June.
