Valley funeral director dead at 60 following skin cancer treatment
A prominent funeral director in the Mahoning Valley has died at the age of 60.
According to his obituary, Terrance "Terry" Reardon, who has worked as a funeral director for Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes since 1987 died unexpectedly following treatment for skin cancer.
Terry began his career as funeral director in 1987 when Higgins-Reardon was simply known as Higgins Funeral Homes. The Reardon name was added in 1999 after Terry and his wife and business partner Judy Higgins became the owners. Terry and Judy married in 1990.
Together with their son Terrance, the family owns funeral homes in Austintown, Canfield, Poland North Jackson and Salem. They also assimilated the professional services of the Fabrizio and Fortunato Funeral Homes.
During his career, Terry took on multiple roles including president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association (OFDA) in 2010, an executive board member with the National Funeral Directors Association and chairman of the OFDA Master Trust Committee.
Terry graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1981 and has remained a part of the Cardinal family throughout his life serving as president of the Cardinal Mooney Alumni Association and was also a member of the school's Board of Directors.
Additionally, he founded the school's lacrosse program, which was the first of its kind in the Mahoning Valley and is a member of the Cardinal Mooney Athletic Hall of Fame.
Calling hours for Terry will take place Sunday, April 14 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home located at 3701 Starr's Center Drive in Canfield.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday April 15 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church. Calling hours will also be held prior to the mass between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Terry will be buried in the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
