Multi-use trail construction underway in Mercer County
A more than $600 thousand multimodal trail for cyclists and pedestrians along Route 208 in Springfield Township has begun.
The project seeks to expand the existing trail as an effort to improve safety and enhance connectivity along the corridor and create a regional multimodal trail throughout the township and county.
This is the second phase of the project and includes construction of nearly half a mile of trail to accommodate two-way pedestrian and bicycle traffic along Route 208.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the trail will run north from Holiday Boulevard at the entrance for TimberCreek Tap & Table to American Way at the entrance for Wendell August Forge.
While a majority of the work will be done off the roadway, temporary lane restrictions may be in place to facilitate construction.
The total cost for the project is $613,333 paid for in federal funds, according to PennDOT.
Construction is expected to be completed i n October 2024.
