A Jamestown man has learned his fate in court after his one-year-old son was shot in the foot back in 2023.

Mercer County District Attorney Peter Acker tells 21 News 40-year-old Joseph Cresswell was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison followed by three years of probation on charges of prohibited possession of a firearm and endangering children.

These charges stem from an incident in July of 2023 when Cresswell left a "loaded, modified sawed-off shotgun" in his son's reach and fled the scene before being arrested by police.

Acker previously told 21 News there is no evidence that the child was shot intentionally and it is believed the shooting was accidental.

Cresswell was already a convicted felon prior to this incident, which means he would not have been allowed to own or possess a firearm.
