Former Ohio PUCO chair accused in First Energy bribery scheme found dead by suicide
The former Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Chairman, who was facing criminal charges over the First Energy bribery scandal, was found dead Tuesday.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, a spokesman for the Franklin County Coroner said Sam Randazzo was found Tuesday in a warehouse that he owned.
Randazzo, 74, was accused of accepting $4.3 million from First Energy bailout of the two Ohio nuclear power plants.
The Dispatch is reporting his death was by suicide.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine appointed Randazzo in 2019 to run the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
FBI agents searched Randazzo’s Columbus home in November of 2020, and he resigned days later.
Randazzo self-surrendered at U.S. District Court in Cincinnati after being charged in an 11-count indictment that was returned on Nov. 29, 2020.
