A Warren man caught on video attacking a woman and kicking her baby across the room has learned his fate in court on Tuesday.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tyrell Williams was handed indefinite consecutive sentences totaling 26 to 31 years in prison on two counts of felonious assault, two counts of kidnapping and one count of endangering children.

The charges stem from an incident caught on camera back in July of 2023 where Williams got into a fight with a woman and punched her, followed by kicking her baby across the room and proceeding to body slam the woman.

Police say the woman's face was swollen and cut due to the incident and the child had a bloody lip and a red mark on his face.

Williams was arrested about a month after the incident when police found and captured him in the Chicago area.

During his sentencing, Williams's attorney told Judge Ronald Rice that Williams is a now a "completely different person" than what is seen in the aforementioned video and says he has been "completely remorseful" since day one.

The defense stated that had Williams had a proper support system in place, this incident would not have occurred.

"I wholeheartedly believe that had [Williams] received the type of mental health counseling and medication and support even back then that he has unfortunately only learned about for the first time since being incarcerated, I don't think he'd be here," the defense said.

However, Judge Rice told Williams that his actions shown in the video is a reminder of why violent criminals are incarcerated for long periods of time.

"The video of you assaulting your own infant child and your girlfriend speaks volumes about your character more than anything this court has ever said. In fact, your conduct in this video epitomizes the profile of a violent criminal," Judge Rice said.

The video was played for the court with some in the courtroom audibly gasping and expressing their shock as it played.

Williams apologized to the woman and her child stating that he was "not in the right state of mind" at the time.

"I wasn't in the right place in life at the time. I really didn't have [anybody] around me. Like, everybody around me was just negative and I just got trapped into that negative force and it got me in this situation I regret," Williams said.
