People living in Columbiana County had the chance to have their voices heard about a proposed landfill project.

West Point Renewables is waiting on one final permit before building a landfill in Madison Township.

The nearly 55-acre landfill could bring in up to 4,000 tons of waste each day.

An Ohio EPA representative attended the Thursday evening meeting to consider public opinions and then make a recommendation on the permit.

West Point Renewables currently operates a transfer station on White Road and is aiming to turn that into a solid landfill.

21 News spoke with Jamie Nentwick of River Valley Organizing about the proposal in February.

"We don't want more trash, more contaminants," Nentwick said. "Inhaling different microparticles is dangerous to people that have an elevated risk of respiratory issues."

Ed Vogel, one of the owners of the proposed landfill, said West Point Renewables will follow every requirement from the Ohio EPA including quarterly testing.
