Contractor pleads guilty in Mahoning County to theft, withdraws guilty plea in Columbiana County
A Boardman contractor with cases in multiple counties has pled guilty to his case in Mahoning County on Thursday.
Forty-one-year-old John Bartos withdrew his plea of not guilty and pled guilty to 11 counts of theft in the fifth and forth degrees and six counts of theft from people in a protected class.
He was sentenced to four years of community control and 100 hours of community service.
This is one of many theft cases involving Bartos in the Valley with him being convicted of theft in Trumbull County in 2023 and has an ongoing case against him in Columbiana County.
He was also previously charged in Lawrence County, but those charges were dropped after a judge decided not to prosecute him.
The cases all stem from Bartos not completing contracting work he was hired to perform.
During his sentencing in Trumbull County back in October of 2023, he was ordered to pay back all of his victims. We're told all victims have since been repaid. In total, Bartos has repaid:
- $62,000 in Mahoning County
- $19,000 in Trumbull County
- $12,000 in Summit County
- $11,500 in Lawrence County
- $5,000 in Columbiana County
Meanwhile in Columbiana County, Bartos appeared at another hearing Thursday afternoon regarding a motion to withdraw his guilty plea in the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas.
During this hearing, Judge Scott Washam allowed Bartos to withdraw his guilty plea. A jury trial is now scheduled for April 29 and a status conference has been scheduled for April 19.
