Boardman Trustees will be meeting tonight to approve the purchase of an upgraded security camera for the Boardman Police Department.
Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth tells 21 News this isn't necessarily anything new for the department, but is an upgrade to its current equipment.
Werth says the department will use this camera in various parts of the township as needed for surveillance on areas involved in open investigations, particularly drug investigations.
Werth tells us the department's current camera is dated and is in need of a replacement. This upgraded camera will have a stronger battery life, will be more durable and capture clearer video during darker times of the night.
The price tag for the camera is $10,899 and that funding will come from the Ohio Violent Crimes Reduction grant. Boardman Township will be reimbursed the cost of the camera by the state.
Werth described the camera as "sophisticated [and] durable" which he says justifies the price of the camera.
