A Boardman contractor who is accused of scamming clients in multiple counties throughout the Valley is set to plead in the case against him in Mahoning County.

John Bartos, who has had cases against him in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Lawrence Counties will plead to charges of theft and passing bad checks on Thursday, March 28 in the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas.

Bartos worked as a home improvement contractor and contracted with numerous victims across the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys who complained that he did not complete the work he was hired to do.

In Trumbull County, Bartos was previously sentenced in October of 2023 to 120 days in jail with a judge offering him early release if he paid full restitution to his victims.

Meanwhile in Columbiana County, Bartos previous pled guilty to charges against him there, but his attorneys have since filed a motion requesting permission for him to withdraw his guilty plea at his sentencing hearing earlier in March.

The State of Ohio later filed another motion urging the judge not to allow Bartos to withdraw his plea. A motions hearing is scheduled for March 28 where the judge will decide whether or not to grant the motion.

While Bartos did have previous cases against him in Lawrence County, all charges against him there have been dropped after a judge decided not to prosecute him.
