Elected officials in Trumbull County are sharing their concerns about Steward Health Care, specifically Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin and President of the Board of Trumbull County Commissioners Denny Malloy penned a letter to people living in the county about their concerns.

The letter says county leaders began talking with key stakeholders several months ago about the quality of care and the future of healthcare offered in Trumbull County, primarily the Trumbull Regional Medical Center and other Steward-owned facilities.

21 News has reported on Steward Health Care's unpaid rent and the uncertain future of its facilities.

Franklin and Trumbull County Commissioners said they will continue holding meetings to address the quality of care in the City of Warren, keeping quality careers for the employees of Steward facilities and Trumbull Regional, protecting the tax base of the City of Warren, Warren City Schools and Trumbull County, and preventing abandonment of the properties that currently provide healthcare.

They say they're looking at many options and say the process will not be easy.

In the last few months, Steward Health's financial issues have been brought up on Capitol Hill, and the company is facing lawsuits alleging unpaid bills.

Steward Health has said its debt stems from inflation and a decline in patients since the pandemic.
