Campbell school board fires employee accused of attempting to hit student
The Campbell City School Board has fired an education assistant who is accused of attempting to hit a student on the bus.
The board met Thursday and approved the termination of Catrina Hall, who is was employed as an education assistant with the district.
A letter (shown below) addressed to Hall from the district reveals that she's been placed on paid administrative leave since February 15 following an alleged incident from February 13.
The board alleges an incident was recorded on a school bus surveillance camera that appeared to show Hall responding to a student who was pulling her hair by pushing the student's hands away from her head, but then allegedly attempting to hit the student by swinging her left arm and fist at him.
The agenda states that the student was able to drop to the floor and avoid being hit.
The board further alleges that during a pre-termination hearing on February 26, Hall was allowed to tell her side of the story.
According to the board, Hall engaged in dishonesty during this hearing with the board alleging that Hall claimed her actions were meant to be "joking" in nature and she had no aggressive intent.
However, the board alleges that during a previous phone call with District Superintendent Matthew Bowen on February 15, Hall said, "He grabbed my hair. I did not hit him. As I sit and think about it, I remember I did swing at him, but I did not hit him."
The board further alleges that during the pre-termination hearing, Hall said, "We have been complaining about this kid for two months."
The board described Hall's alleged actions as "unacceptable, inappropriate and physically aggressive."
