PUCO approves sale of Dominion Energy Ohio to Canadian company
The Valley's largest supplier of natural gas has officially been sold.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced the approval of the sale of Dominion Energy, Inc. (including East Ohio Gas Company, also known as Dominion East Ohio) to Enbridge Elephant Holdings, LLC, a Canadian natural gas company giant.
PUCO approved the sale Wednesday and says that under Enbridge's new ownership, Dominion Energy Ohio will "continue to have the managerial, technical and financial capability to provide safe, reasonably-priced and adequate natural gas to Ohio customers." Also, that there will be no interruption of natural gas service to customers of Dominion Energy Ohio.
In addition, the PUCO affirmed that Enbridge will not recover any costs of the transaction from its customers, and that they are directing Enbridge to provide the PUCO with education materials related to the transaction that they can provide to customers.
This acquisition has been in the process of confirmation since fall 2023. On October 20, 2023, Dominion Energy Ohio and Enbridge filed a notice of parent company transaction regarding the purchase and sale of the company.
Dominion Energy Ohio currently services more than 1.2 million households across 400 communities and 41 counties in Ohio, including Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Mahoning, Portage, Stark and Trumbull.
