Girard Fire Chief Jim Petruzzi tells 21 News this levy is nothing new for the city and has been in effect for around 20 years now. Residents have voted on its renewal every five years.
The three-mil levy is essential for the fire department to perform its day-to-day operations with funding for everything from equipment to vehicle maintenance and anything else other than payroll being dependent on this levy.
Chief Petruzzi says this levy would cost the average homeowner in Girard $10.68 per month.
