911 audio reveals more details in killing of Warren mail carrier
A USPS mail carrier that was shot and killed Saturday afternoon has been identified.
According to a news release from the Warren Police Department, the mail carrier has been identified as 33-year-old Jonte Davis (pictured below).
Davis was shot while inside his U.S. Postal Van by a suspect in a different vehicle. Life saving measures were taken at the scene of the shooting, on the corner of Scott Street NE and Olive Avenue NE. The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m.
He was later taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his wounds.
According to a 911 call from a neighbor, someone in a grey pickup truck drove by Davis's mail truck and fired four or five shots at him and then drove away toward Washington Street toward North Park Avenue.
Another caller told dispatchers that the mail truck drove off the road into a yard.
Warren Police, along side the Federal Bureau of Investigations and USPS Postal Inspectors soon located the suspect's vehicle at 429 Maryland Ave NE.
With the aid of the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team, the agencies conducted a search of the property. Several individuals were taken to the Warren Police Department to be interviewed, according to the news release.
However, it's important to note that Warren police have not detained anyone in relation to the shooting at this time.
Officials say they believe Davis and the suspect knew each other.
According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
Mayor Doug Franklin told 21 News that officers are doing everything they can to locate the perpetrators.
