St. Elizabeth Boardman welcomes nine 'leaplings' on February 29th
Leap Day only comes around once every four years but this one was made extra special by the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
The pediatric unit delivered nine babies on February 29, 2024.
According to Mercy Health, pediatric nurse practitioner Dianne Despetorich suggested that the team should do something special for the upcoming leap day babies.
That's when Tara McAllister, the manager of nursing in the mother and baby unit, decided to jump in. McAllister crocheted frog hats for the "leaplings."
“I saw the frog theme and knew I could make super cute hats,” McAllister said. "I worked on the hats over the last month, each one takes about an hour and a half from start to finish.”
That hard work paid off as the nine leaplings donned their frog hats on Leap Day.
