The working being done here by volunteers at Jefferson pre kindergarten through 8th grade in Warren is to help build better lives for students who don't have a bed to rest thier heads on in Trumbull County and kids in Warren.

"This is the first annual bed build we set up with as a partner with Warren City Schools in order to make sure Trumbull County as a whole you know, gets provided beds because I know children need sleep to sustain education," Warren City Schools Family Navigator Raitwann Gaston said.

With a list of 300 kids waiting for a bunk bed the school district partnered with the Trumbull Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non profit agency that provides beds for kids ages 3 to 17.

They held an indoor event so fewer kids will be left waiting until the weather breaks for a bed build event that is typically held outdoors in better weather.

The volunteers were able to build more than the 40 beds planned due to volunteer work by employees of the distirct.

"Our District Carpenters volunteered to cut and sand all the wood that was used for today's bed build for 75 beds.  It was over 1,000 pieces of wood," Jefferson School Counselor Suzanne Goodyear-Pondillo said.

The nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace which depends on donations, and volunteers, not only provides the bunk beds, but a pillow, sheets, blanket, and comforter.

"We've had children meet us at the door like opening the door, jumping is that my bed? So we get all different kinds of reactions. Sometimes they're a little teary eyed, but all our delivery teams always remember their first delivery," Chelsea Monroe Trumbull County Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace said.

More than 130 adults, kids, teens, the principal, faculty and several community organizations also rolled up their sleeves so some kids can sleep in heavenly peace.

Members of the Warren G. Harding Key Club and Jefferson Men of Distinction mentoring program also took part.
