Student journalists at Youngstown State University gathered to celebrate Student Press Freedom Day on Friday.

Students from The Jambar, JambarTV and the Society of Collegiate Journalists raised awareness of some of the challenges student journalists face and their contributions to the university.

Jambar Editor-In-Chief Molly Burke explained the importance of a free press on college campuses.

"It's a very important thing to celebrate because we as student journalists need to have an uncensored free press. Especially on college campuses," Burke said.

Wall Street Journal Assistant Editor Paul Beckett also made an appearance at the event. Beckett is in charge of efforts to free Evan Gersh-kovich, a reporter who was detained in Russia in 2023.
