City of Sharon announces $255,500 in ARP funds for revitalization projects

The City of Sharon has announced $255,500 in ARP funds to be awarded to significant city revitalization and development projects.

This funding will go to projects including a new bakery and eatery in the former Army Navy building, a second floor expansion for a gaming shop, exterior infrastructure upgrades for a candy store, a new facade for a restaurant, a kitchen upgrades for another restaurant, as well as a new bakery and the second phase of renovations of a former manufacturing plant.

These projects are as follows:

- Allie's Sweet Tooth: $25,000 to open a flagship store in Downtown Sharon, which will include a bakery, eatery, event space and corporate packaging area. This will be located at 47 East State Street. This will be Allie's second location with the first being located in Mercer.

- Daffin's Candies: $45,000 for infrastructure and exterior renovations to the building at 496 East State Street. The store has been open in Sharon since 1949 and moved to its current location in 1975. Daffin's also has locations in Greenville, Franklin and Niles.

- Haitian Sensations / Sweet Sensations: $10,000 for kitchen upgrades and an expansion. The store plans to grow its offerings, hours and staffing with the funding.

- ICG Hobbies and Games: $8,000 for expansions including a second floor devoted entirely to tabletop miniature gaming like Warhammer, Marvel Crisis Protocol, BattleTech and Song of Ice and Fire.

- Niko and Lou's Coney Island: $17,500 for facade upgrades to the front exterior of the business.

- Winner Development LLC: $150,000 for Phase II renovations of The Landing, which is the former Westinghouse plant site. Phase II includes window replacement and a fire escape installation. The building has been closed and abandoned for nearly 40 years. Currently The Landing houses an indoor agriculture facility, several art studios, a woodworking company and a gymnastics business in the adjoining building and plans include expansion into other parts of The Landing.

These projects will continue to grow our business community and continue to support citywide revitalization. We are excited to support both existing anchor businesses as well as to help establish new businesses to add to our downtown corridor," said Sharon City Council President Molly Bundrant.
