The state fire marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in South Pymatuning Township early Thursday.

Fire departments from several Mercer County communities were called to the scene of a blaze at the VFW post 7599.

The call came in to dispatchers before 2 a.m. Thursday that flames were coming through the roof of the building.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke towering over the building at 116 Edgewood Drive.

A third alarm was sent out so more fire departments would send manpower and equipment when flames had spread throughout the building.

The Transfer Volunteer Fire Department announced on its Facebook page that no traffic is being permitted on Edgewood Drive between Crestview Drive and Arlington Drive. Brentwood Drive from the high school to Edgewood Drive is closed due to a water supply setup. Roads also may be icy from water shuttles. .

No injuries have been reported. The building has been declared a total loss.
