A tradition that started six years ago at Boardman High School continues on Wednesday.

Safety forces will gather at the school for what's become known as the Legacy Lockdown.

Created after the February 14, 2018 Parkland, Florida school shooting that claimed the lives of seventeen people, Boardman students worked to build something that would honor the memory of those killed.

BHS says the purpose of the event is motivational, educational, and a call to action.

The event includes a state mandated lockdown drill, a spartan clap-out to honor first responders, and a chance for police and firefighters to interact with students during lunch.

The Legacy Lockdown will start with a drill at 10:10 a.m.  Boardman police and firefighters have been invited to attend the event, as well as the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.

During the lockdown, first responders are encouraged to walk through the building and help check that doors are locked, lights are out, and classes are silent. After the drill, first responders will walk through the halls to the applause of students and staff.
