An 11-year-old girl who brought a loaded weapon inside East Middle School in Youngstown on Thursday was in Mahoning County Juvenile Court on Friday.

The girl is set for a preliminary hearing in the next 7 to 10 days.

The Youngstown Police, in a released statement, said, "It does not appear that the juvenile female intended to harm anyone at the school or on school property, and there is no threat to the public."

The child is facing two counts of felony counts of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon and one felony count of possessing a concealed weapon.

The police said they were alerted that a student at East Middle School at 940 Bryn Mawr Avenue on the city's East Side was possessing a firearm.

The investigation revealed that an 11-year-old female had brought a loaded handgun into school and showed it to another student. According to YPD, it appears the juvenile female obtained the firearm from her home.

The girl will be held at JJC, and the police are still investigating the incident and will decide if others may be charged in the case.
