More bathrooms open in Austintown Fitch High School following student petition
Nearly one week after students and parents in Austintown voiced their anger regarding the bathroom situation at Austintown Fitch High School, more progress is being made in the cause.
According to an update to a change.org petition launched by a student, changes have been made and another pair of bathrooms in the school have reopened. Students are describing this news as a "victory."
Last Thursday, 21 News reported that only one boy's bathroom and one girl's bathroom was open in the high school, with the rest being blocked off by fencing. Students say this was done in response to students vaping and vandalizing the bathrooms.
Students and parents complained of long lines to the bathrooms causing students to miss class, as well as issues for some students with certain medical conditions who cannot afford to wait that long.
We've reached out to district officials for comment on this development but have not heard back yet.
