Update: Salem Bureau of Motor Vehicles not closing
The Salem Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will not be closing this summer after all.
21 News previously reported that the Salem location would close on June 29, the day before the contract term for the Salem Deputy Registrar is set to end.
Now BMV staff members say they believe the bidding process will open again for a new deputy registrar.
After the 21 News story aired on January 8, a change.org petition to save the BMV went from just over 100 signatures to about 2,500 as of this writing.
If the Salem location closed, customers would have been left with only one location in Columbiana County - the Lisbon BMV. 21 News previously spoke with customers who said the Lisbon location would be a 30-minute drive for them.
