Boardman's Christmas Cafe offers year-round holiday atmosphere

If the holidays came and went too soon, or you want a place to escape from the rat race, there's a hideaway opening in a spot tucked away behind the Southern Park Mall.
The Christmas Café is celebrating its grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday.
It is located in a small plaza at 7393 California Ave. Boardman, the place is easy to spot with a poster of Frosty the Snowman greeting you at the door.
Inside, there's a magical display of Christmas lights, trees, decorations, a digital fireplace, and classic holiday music playing.
Owners say the atmosphere was crafted for adults who are kids at heart.
"I know we have things during the holiday times, but the joy of Christmas, longer than 30 days, I hadn't found anything like this," said Owner April Mason. "I felt like it was something that was needed."
"This atmosphere just makes you feel warm and cozy," said Manager Alura Webb. "It makes you want to sit down with a hot chocolate. I can't remember the last time I felt like that here."
Mason is a San Fransisco native and recently relocated to the area after living in Atlanta for 20 years. She is a published author and live improvement coach. She calls this her "passion project." Something that always puts her in a better mood is Christmas music. That's when the idea sparked.
"How many other people get happy when they hear Christmas music?" Mason explained. "And so I typed out a sales pitch, sent it to my friends, and they loved it. So I waited for the opportunity."
The Christmas Café will be open year-round, featuring a desert-based menu and seasonal warm beverages like hot chocolate bombs and apple cider.
"As we get into our liquor license, it'll be super fun because we get to make all of these new concoctions and all of these new fun cozy drinks for you," Webb added.
The café also plans game nights, Christmas bingo, Karaoke evenings, and live music nights.
"My goal for this place is for it to be a community but also to let adults know that it's okay to play," Mason added. "We go to work every day with the hustle and bustle. But Christmas brings back the child in you."
The shop has hired eight employees to assist with daily operations. The hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
