Youngstown State University to re-establish government affairs office after 10 year hiatus
Youngstown State University is the only college in Ohio that doesn't have a government affairs office in the entire state of Ohio.
That's according to YSU's Director of Marketing and Communications Becky Rose.
Now, with Ohio Rep. Bill Johnson's tenure as the university's 10th president on Monday, that's going to change.
Johnson is bringing over two of his staff, Sarah Keeler and Maria Bova, to head up the Government Affairs Office, which has been dormant for ten years, according to Rose.
The office is responsible for establishing a link between local, state and federal governments and work to bring in grants for the school to fund programs and special projects.
Rose says that Bova will be the associate director of governmental affairs and earn a salary of $57,360 while Keeler will be the special assistant of government affairs with a salary of $170,000 annually.
Keeler currently serves as Johnson's district director and Bova is constituent services caseworker.
Additionally, Tim Harrington, who has been chief operating officer and vice president for operations for BOC Water Hydraulics in Salem for the past 10 years will also join the staff.
He will serve as President Johnson’s executive assistant.
