Youngstown Fire Department adds 5 more firefighters
Five more firefighters have been added to the ranks at the Youngstown Fire Department.
Mayor Tito Brown swore in the recruits at the downtown fire station.
This is the largest number of firefighters the department has had since Barry Finley took over as chief.
Finley says bringing new people into the department should drastically reduce its overtime budget.
"I really plan or hope to do another hiring," Chief Finley said. "Maybe not this many, but I do believe we're going to have a few people leaving sometime this year or by the end of the year. I want to keep our staffing up, but this is really going to help our staffing situation tremendously."
The new hires are expected to be fully trained by March.
Chief Finley said the department is always looking for a few good people to fill out the ranks.
