The long wait for progress on the Meijer location in Austintown will soon be over.
According to Township Administrator Mark D'Apolito and Zoning Inspector Darren Crivelli, Meijer has informed the township that they plan to break ground on April 1.
The store will be built on the site where Austintown Middle School stood for more than 100 years.
Meijer purchased the property across from Chick-Fil-A back in 2016.
The old middle school was closed in 2007 and then demolished in 2017. The property has set empty ever since.
An opening date for Meijer has not been determined.
