A medical event that lead to the death of an elderly man caused a three car crash on Route 18 in Hermitage, according to the Mercer County Coroner.

The incident happened between Longview Road and Hermitage Road around 6:15 p.m., an elderly man suffered a medical event and died before his car drifted into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with two cars, according to Mercer County Coroner John Libonati.

Libonati tells 21 News that the crash involved just three people, including the elderly man who died prior to the incident.

The two others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with at least one of them being taken by helicopter flight.

Their condition is unclear at this time.

Libonati says the corner's office is working to notify the family of the deceased before releasing the victim's name to the public.
