Mark Zuppo sworn in as new mayor of Girard
Girard's Mayor, Mark Zuppo, might be new to the role, but he's no stranger to public service.
Serving as the city's treasurer since 2016, Zuppo tells 21 News, that running the town will be a group effort.
"I plan on running an inclusive administration, we'll probably have public hearings to get people's input," Zuppo said.
Zuppo wants to start by meeting with department heads to gather information.
"Meeting with each department, each person in each department, figuring out what their wants and needs are and making sure they understand the difference between a want and a need," Zuppo said.
Most importantly, Zuppo plans to tackle the issue of emergency services, especially at Upper Girard Lake.
"We plan on being good neighbors to everyone and supporting each other as best we can," said Zuppo. "I have no plans currently, I've gotta develop a plan," he said.
Zuppo says he's working on getting a grocery store in the city and making the downtown area more aesthetically pleasing.
"I saw a lot of little towns that were maybe not the wealthiest but, one thing there was a common thread, they all had nice little downtown areas," said Zuppo. "We plan on developing our downtown area," he said.
Zuppo tells 21 News you can't please everyone, but he does want the people of Girard to know he will be completely transparent, they will be included in decisions made and they'll have a voice with him in office.
