Historical building in East Liverpool to be restored

City leaders in East Liverpool are preparing to revitalize the J.C. Thompson Building, located in the heart of downtown. The historic landmark will soon be home to a variety of commercial and residential spaces.
On Wednesday, city and state leaders announced a project that will restore the 131-year-old building.
The first floor of the building will be used for retail stores, the second and third floors will be used for office work, and the top floor will become a residential space.
The project is being supported by local, state and federal dollars.
A significant portion of the funds came from the state's historic tax program, which aims to preserve and redevelop historical buildings.
City leaders told 21 News that they hope to begin construction on the project by the end of summer 2024.
